Mental disorders. They can be difficult things to live with and they can cause further damage if people are unaware that they have those conditions.

Nearly 50 million Americans have some kind of mental illness.

If you think that you or a loved one fall into this category, what could be really helpful is go through psychological testing.

What is psychological testing? How accurate are the results? What do you do once you get the results?

Answers to these questions can help you decide if psychological testing is right for you.

1. Know the Signs

The first thing that you need to know is the signs that you may benefit from autism test, an ADHD test, or any other kind of psychological test. What are those signs?

Well, some of these can be if the person is having a hard time paying attention, if you notice a sudden change in mood, if you notice a lot of sensitivity, and withdrawing from social situations.

There are a lot of different things that you can be tested for that have a mix of these signs. It is up to you to identify these signs and see if a specific diagnosis is appropriate for you and your symptoms.

If you notice you have several of the signs, you might want to get tested.

2. Know Your Testing Options

Do not just assume there is only one test out there for psychological testing. In fact, there are several different tests available depending on the condition that you have.

For example, there are tests that can help you identifiy how you think and how that may impact your performance at school or at work. Then there are other tests that can help you understand your emotions and how you view the world and relationships.

If you have questions and/or are curious if testing can help you, reach out to us and you can talk to our psychologist, Dr. Bridget, Wieckowski, who can answer any questions you have about the process.

3. Prepare for the Results

Finally, you have to prepare for any results that come from these tests. If you are a parent or guardian of someone taking these tests, you need to prepare for how you may have to accommodate someone if they meet criteria for a specific condition.

For example, let’s say that your child is diagnosed with autism. As a parent, you will receive detailed and tailored recommendations that are unique to your child.
